I hope you are all enjoying this lovely afternoon. The 6th graders met with their 1st grade buddies for the first time this morning, and we had a delightful time getting to know each other. :) We'll be meeting together on a regular basis for reading and occasional special projects.
Unfortunately, our 100% streak for memory work finally came to an end today. However, most of the students were ready with their verse and books of the Old Testament. We'll start a new streak on Monday! By the way, just let me know if you'd like a digital copy of the memory verse assignments for the school year.
Before our morning ended, we stepped away from Mars for a day and enjoyed some physics and chemistry. First, we used air pressure to collapse soda cans. It was interesting to hear the students' theories as to why the cans were crushed. You might want to ask your child for an explanation of why the air pressure was able to smash the cans. Then, we discussed polymers and modeled a linear polymer chain using paperclips. We went on to create a polymer using cornstarch and distilled water. Some of us were more successful than others. :)
Today is our midterm for the first trimester. Progress reports will be coming home at the end of next week. In the meantime, don't forget that you can track your student's progress using Gradelink. User names and passwords have been sent home, but if your copy is missing, I will be happy to print another for you. Have a great weekend and remember the Fall Fest on October 13!
