Wow! Today we read from our novel and the suspense is mounting! Is Jim really a hostage? Will Silver keep his promise? We are getting down to the last few chapters in our story. :) Starting next Monday, students will need to choose a novel to read for the next literature assignment. I will go over the criteria for selection and make a note of the students' choices. The 6th graders will complete a response project based on their selected book and present the project to the class during the week of December 17.
Our last Mars group presented their community model for the Mars Colony this morning. The kiddos have done a nice job on their projects. Afterwards, we finished our plural nouns foldable and completed a quick English assignment. In addition, we had PE this morning--our focus today was on challenge games that require and strengthen teamwork. Also, we had a study time for Social Studies and many of the students finished their study guides for Monday's test. Finally, we ended our morning with memory work (lyrics for the Christmas program) and a read aloud from our Nate Saint biography.
This afternoon was a quite a treat because the 6th graders were in our room for the rest of the day. After lunch recess, Mrs. Anfinson and I split up the students into two groups and did an art project--Mrs. Courtney's chalk turkeys. You'll enjoy seeing their creations at conference time. Along with our art, we took a math quiz, had a short reading/study hall time, and cleaned our desks. Then, we slipped outside for a 10-minute recess at the end of the day. A good time was had by all!
