Today just flew by! The 6th graders were lots of fun and were quite focused on their work this morning. Almost everyone has completed the Part VI worksheet and writing activity. The rest of the students are well on their way to being ready to turn in their work tomorrow. I've briefly glanced over some of the Epilogues and can't wait to sit down and finish reading them. :)
Everyone had a self-selected novel here today--hooray! After spending some time reading our books, we went over a list of possible novel response projects. The class had a couple of good suggestions to add to the list of project ideas, too. I plan to give the students one or two "working" class periods (during the week of December 10) dedicated to the projects. During the week of December 17, we will share our projects with our classmates.
We didn't talk about our science investigations today. Instead, I gave them a little extra computer time for finishing up the Epilogues. However, tomorrow we will be looking at how to narrow down topics for science projects and how to determine if a project is feasible. The completed investigation will include a written report, tri-fold display board, and presentation to the class. Also, the project will be due on February 25. Look for your student to be bringing home more information. Ideally, I'd like them to be settled about what they are going to do before we leave on Christmas break.
