As preparation for reading chapter 3 in our class novel, I spent some time preparing the students for the use of the "n- word" in our story. Mildred D. Taylor, the author and an African-American woman, has included this racist term intentionally to help the reader understand the attitude of some members of Southern society toward people of color during the early 20th century. After our discussion, I think the students all understand that Mrs. Taylor is not condoning or encouraging racist speech. Just thought you might want to know. :)
I've already received three participation slips back for the class trip--hooray! Please be sure to return the form to me or email me by Monday, 3/25, at the latest so I can confirm the number of attendees with OMSI. We are going to have an exciting time exploring and learning. I hope you can join us.
As your student may have shared with you, one of our memory assignments this trimester is the Apostles' Creed. While the Creed is not Scripture, it systematically summarizes the Biblical doctrines which form the basis of our beliefs as Christians. I know that some churches do not repeat the Creed on a regular basis, so I'm attaching a copy of it to our blog for reference.
