Incredibly, week #1 is now history. In Math 1 this morning, we reviewed our skills using a "Math Minute" worksheet. Afterward, we explored the world of exponents. The assignment for today was to recopy the chart we created in class. The students' mini-posters are in their binders for handy reference--it might be fun to ask your child to explain what he/she learned about exponents and exponential form. :)
In literature, we viewed a PowerPoint with images of Korea and Korean pottery in preparation for our first class novel, A Single Shard. Then, I read a portion of the first chapter to the 6th graders to introduce the characters and setting. If all goes well, our novel should be on the iPads in the near future.
In Christian Studies, we continued reading about Nate Saint. We ended our day with the Indescribable video featuring Louie Giglio and some truly awesome photos from space. I think we are all amazed at God's power and creativity, as well as his love. What a way to kick off our Astronomy unit!
In 7th grade science, the students created conceptual maps connecting natural disasters. We will continue to add to our charts as we learn more about the processes involved in creating catastrophic events.
Today was our bridge breaking day in 8th grade science. So far, we have tested three bridges to failure. The last two bridges will be tested on Tuesday. Yes, it was a blast!
Enjoy your long weekend. I'm looking forward to being back in the class with your children on Tuesday. :)
