Today we began exploring the racism that was so prevalent in the early 20th Century.  While this is a disturbing subject, it relates directly to the next class novel we will be reading, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry.  Our story is set in the deep South during the 1930s and deals with the racial tensions in a small town.  I thought you might like a heads-up so you can talk with your student about this subject.  :)
