We had a perfect day for a field trip.  The 6th graders had hands on time weaving and making quilt block patterns.  Then we learned about raptors in our area from the Blue Mountain Wildlife staff, and became acquainted a falcon, red-tailed hawk, and two owls.  Our third station was the steam engine.  We learned about steam power and, also, about alternating current electricity.  In the process we learned more about the work of Nikola Tesla.  Adding to the fun, one of our moms and four of our classmates had a chance to try to saw a log faster that a steam-powered saw!  We ended our day with the Oregon Trail cooking station.  Thank you so much to our parent drivers/chaperones who joined us for this learning experience.  :)
