Today we started our novel, Treasure Island. Students took notes from a PowerPoint presentation about Robert Louis Stevenson; we discussed some techniques such as using phrases rather than sentences, shortening or abbreviating words, etc. Following the slideshow, we read chapter 1, noting some of the literary devices Stevenson employed to make his characters come to life. Needless-to-say, our literature class ran a bit overtime!
During PE, we ditched the original plan (extended running outside) because of all the smoke in the air and settled for an in-gym game instead. By way of a reminder, we have swapped our Wednesday PE for a Thursday PE slot. The students will need to have their PE clothes here again tomorrow for our Friday PE class. If the air is better, we'll be outside.
Chapel is starting to take shape. :) We practiced in the worship area during Christian Studies and the sixth graders are becoming more comfortable with their cues and actions. On Monday we'll start practicing with microphones. I hope you'll be able to join us next Wednesday, 9/26/2012, at 8:35 AM!
