Tuesday's News

Today we took our first MAP test of the school year--Reading.  Next Tuesday, we will take the math test and be finished until the spring.  We are continuing to "nail down" literary elements and techniques this week as we prepare to go into our first novel next week.  At first, the plot versus theme idea was causing heartburn for some of the sixth graders, but I think everyone is much more comfortable now.  I'm looking forward to reading the students' paragraphs explaining the difference between plot and theme.

Since Tuesday is one of our double Language Arts days, we spent time this afternoon reviewing implied subjects for imperative sentences and identifying the subject in interrogative sentences.  It was a bit more challenging than I had anticipated, but in the end the kiddos nailed the concepts just fine.  To reinforce our review, we are writing tips about performing an activity or creating safety tips using imperative sentences.  I think some of the sixth graders are enjoying giving commands!

Have a great evening and, if you can, why not join us for chapel in the morning?  :)
