Our classrooms are full of spirit for LEST! Today we had our LEST assembly and previewed the drama, vocal and instrumental music, and dance team. In addition, the teams and our 2015 Champion of Character were introduced. Goody bags and posters were also handed out to all the participants in their homerooms. We are ready for Thursday. :)
Our next classroom novel, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, is set during a turbulent time in American history. In literature we spent some time discussing what life was like for African Americans and other people of color during the early 20th century in the deep south. You might want to talk with your student about his/her understanding of racism and civil rights. 6th graders are all about fairness and things like the Jim Crow Laws can be really intense and difficult to deal with.
