Sixth grade had a very busy day today. We learned additional routines and procedures for our classes--the kiddos are doing well. :) Then we spent time going over computer/internet guidelines and reviewing our standard of dress. Please sign the computer form your child is bringing home tonight (you'll see a reminder in the planner) as students will not be allowed to use the internet without a signed agreement on file.
In Christian Studies today, we worked on our memory verse for the week. Several students are ready to say the verse to me tomorrow (and earn an extra credit point). Usually, we will have a memory assignment each week. Our focus this year will be on (1) the 10 Commandments, (2) the Books of the Bible, (3) the Lord's Prayer, and (4) the Apostles' Creed. In addition, we will memorize monthly theme verses that relate to the "Armor of God." Because the memory verses are introduced on the first school day of the week, we will base our Christian Studies lesson for the day on the passage(s) we are studying. For example, as we are learning the verses for the 10 Commandments, we will apply the Scriptures to our lives, e.g. what is the Lord telling us not to do? Conversely, what is He implying we should do instead? Then, we will spend the bulk of the week in our lesson books--the exception being chapel days. If you have any questions about our memory curriculum or lessons, please feel free to stop by the classroom. I'd love to show you some of the things we are doing.
Taking advantage of our double Literature/Writing time today, we combined some study skills work with a review of characterization. I'll tell you more in tomorrow's post. :) Also, tomorrow is a PE day, so everyone needs to bring a shirt, navy or black shorts, and shoes for running.
The sixth graders are such fun to be with and I'm really looking forward to our collaboration this year. I appreciate their cooperative spirits and willingness to try new things!
