Wow! Today simply flew by. After starting our day with devotions and prayer, we jumped right into our literature/writing exercise. Students finished constructing rough drafts of the Billy Coleman characterization paragraphs. Then, we discussed revisions versus edits. As a class, we reviewed some "dress-ups" and "sentence openers" the sixth graders could use to "spice up" their revisions! Tomorrow the kids will review their work a second time to look at organization and clarity, among other things. Once our "authors" are happy with their product, we will take turns reading and and offering additional helpful suggestions to each other. By Friday, we should be ready to edit and write out a final copy.
During our scheduled science time, we worked on after-school schedules. Our goal is to find some minutes here and there which we can use to complete school work. One student shared the idea of taking a homework kit along in the car while traveling to and from practices, etc. What a super idea! You might want to check with your student for some additional ideas and suggestions. :)
I don't know about the other elective classes, but I certainly enjoyed meeting with the debate students. What a lively, fun group of middle schoolers!
Most students said their memory verse early--like today. Apparently, they really like the idea of extra points for learning their assignment prior to Friday. Of course, the idea of 10 minutes for extra recess if the entire class knows the verse may also be a motivating factor. :)
