Somehow, it doesn't seem possible that the first week of school is history. Surprisingly, a few students and I thought today was very much like a Monday! Since several class members were missing today, we treated ourselves to some silent reading and enrichment time. Of course, the kiddos all enjoyed the extra 10 minutes they had earned from their memory work.
One of the fun things we did was to write an alternate ending to a Dr. Seuss story. I read a portion of "What Was I Scared Of?" and then had the sixth graders finish the tale. We have some very creative young writers and it was fun listening to their compositions. We had rhymes, prose and all sorts of characters appearing! All-in-all, it was an entertaining way to practice writing fluency. :)
Today is Friday, so be sure to initial the daily planner page and sign the behavior sheet for this past week. The students will need to show me the initials and signatures first thing Tuesday morning. And, of course, have a safe, refreshing holiday weekend!
